Being a mom means that I tend to do a lot of things for others. Whether it’s cooking, crafting, activities, etc I’m always trying to give a little of myself to my family. And while I love being with my family and spending as much time with them, sometimes I just need a little time to myself.
Luckily I’ve been able to create a space for myself at home and I’ve turned playroom’s closet into an office/craft nook. I can happily come into the room, sit down, and work on whatever I need to get done without being in anyone else’s way. It’s all mine!
As I look around the space around me, filled with toys, books, arts, and crafts I cannot help myself and start to dream about the what ifs. What if I had this whole room to myself? Or even just another wall? How would I create the perfect space just for me? What would my mom cave look like?
Creating a Space for Mom
Mom Cave? What’s a mom cave? Well… I figure if my husband can have his man-cave (the garage) then I should be able to deem my area of the house my mom cave.
The photos above are of the second half of our playroom. This is where we store a majority of my kids toys as well as give them a place to play close to me while I work during the day. There’s our huge DIY chalkboard on the wall, a train table covered in toys, a fun ABC rug, and our toy bin organizer with our fish tank on top.
I would love it if I could simply remove the train table from the room and store most of the toys seen in the living room in our new entertainment unit. That would involve a lot of weeding out of toys we might not use anymore but it would be worth it!
Then I would move our toy organizer to where the train table is and I’d have a whole wall to myself. And that wall would become the perfect reading and crocheting nook. This is where my favorite furniture store comes in… La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries!
La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries
When I first walked into La-Z-Boy in Mission Valley I couldn’t help but squee with delight at the gorgeous furniture and accent pieces I saw. We’ve been to La-Z-Boy quite a bit over the past few years. And we own two recliners that we wouldn’t give up for anything! They’re the two chairs in the house our guests fight over because they’re so comfortable.
Recently we went searching for the perfect sofa for our living room there but with young children we just didn’t want to risk having to purchase another one a few years later. So we’re holding off on that big purchase until the kids are a bit older.
We’ve always received excellent service at La-Z-Boy and because of that have recommended it to friends and family. Being in the business for 85 years, La-Z-Boy knows furniture. Not only is the staff awesome at what they do, they’re also a no-hassle sales team. That means if you’re simply there to browse again for the 5th time in 3 months, they let you! And I’m talking from experience.
So being in this store to simply dream of furniture to make my perfect Mom Cave was perfectly acceptable to them. They even offered to help pick out a few pieces that would go great in the space I have.
Mom Cave Decorating Ideas
With the space I have available in the playroom, I knew I wouldn’t be able to fit a full sofa into the room. So the first few pieces of furniture I looked at were their selection of chairs. I love chair and a halfs because there’s room to curl up with a book, sit cross-legged while I crochet, or give enough room for me to read a book to my kids comfortably in one chair. But there was still something missing for the space I wanted to create…
Because I love our recliners I quickly headed over to the recliner section to see if something caught my eye. And that’s when I found “the one.”
It was perfect. The perfect size. On sale. And oh so comfortable! There was a great table right next to it that would be perfect for a book or two and a basket underneath for my yarn and crochet hooks. I couldn’t have been more excited.
Plus, the fact that most of La-Z-Boy’s furniture is customizable I knew that if I wasn’t in love with the fabric I could easily choose another pattern or color.
Now that I had the perfect chair it was time to find accent pieces. La-Z-Boy has some great accent pieces to go along with their large furniture selection. From lamps to rugs to artwork, they have you covered!
I went back around the store to look for lighting. And that’s when I saw the hanging lights in the upper left hand corner of the photo above. They would be perfect for the corner and would provide great lighting. Combined with an end table, a small rug and a few accent pieces like the cute ceramic owls I saw, my mom cave would be complete.
Not only would I have a place to work and create with my new home office/craft area, I’d also have a place to relax and have a bit of alone time with my new additional space. The comfortable, stylish furniture would create the perfect room for me.
You can find all of the pieces I’d love to include in my mom cave on my La-Z-Boy #MomCave Pinterest Board.
