Healthy Breakfast Ideas for Busy Moms

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I’ve heard that phrase just about all my life and have never really doubted it. I love food. I love breakfast food. So why skip breakfast?

My husband’s excuse for not eating breakfast has always been that he just doesn’t have the time. Breakfast takes to long and he needs to get to work before traffic gets bad. Well… in all my years of working outside of the home I never had a problem finding time for breakfast.

Healthy Breakfast Ideas for Busy Moms on a Budget

Want to know how? Here are a few healthy breakfast ideas for busy moms that will keep you fueled up in the morning and ready to tackle your day! Oh, and did I mention they were budget friendly?

I headed out to my local Vons this week to pick up a few of the essentials for breakfast in the morning. You can read about my shop here in my Healthy Breakfast Ideas at Safeway Google + Album.

Healthy Breakfast Ideas start with coffee

Caffeine for Mom

The first thing I always look for when I’m shopping is my coffee. I buy a few different brands but try to stick with what’s on sale and what I have a coupon for.

The one bag of coffee I can always count on to a. usually be on sale and b. have a coupon online or in the paper is Seattles Best Coffee. And not only is it inexpensive, it tastes great! I go for Level 2 as the perfect morning cup.

And no cup of coffee is complete without a splash of creamer. My International Delight fat free white chocolate mocha adds flavor to my cup of joe without adding too much extra. Plus, just like the coffee I can usually find a coupon or a sale.

Healthy Breakfast Ideas for Busy Moms - cereal

Whole Grain Cereal is Our Go-To!

With coffee taken care of for mom, it’s time to think about breakfast ideas that are great for both me and the kids. And they have to be something I can make in less than 5 minutes.

That’s where my favorite cereals come in to play. Not only is cereal portable, it’s super tasty and filled with whole grains. Our family favorite? Honey Nut Cheerios!

To make breakfast even healthier I always add a side of fruit. I pre-slice and wash everything the night before so it’s ready to go! This morning we enjoyed some sliced berries on our o’s (as my daughter calls them).

Healthy Breakfast Ideas for kids

Cereal and OJ with a Side of Fruit

While I love my cup of coffee, the kids are still a little too young to enjoy the caffeine in the morning so I go to my second favorite cup… orange juice! Simply Orange is just that… pure orange juice. And the kids love it.

I know that they’re getting everything they need to start their day off right with that bowl of cereal and fruit and their orange juice. Plus, it fills them up enough so that they aren’t complaining half an hour later of being hungry.

I’m not complaining either!

Enjoying Breakfast as a Family

While we do love to sit together and enjoy a nice hot breakfast around the table most mornings, sometimes we have to stick with what will get us out the door fast. And with this great combo breakfast is made and eaten in about 15 minutes.

We still have time to chat about what we’re doing for the day, what the kids want for dinner, and what we’ll do when we get home. It’s a great, peaceful way to start our morning and I love that I get to spend that bit of time with the kids.

But if we don’t have the 15 minutes we need to eat at home, I can transfer everything into portable containers so we can eat breakfast on the go.

Some other great options for quick and easy breakfast meals that can be made in advance and heated up:

Egg Cups

Baked Peanut Butter and Banana Oatmeal Squares

Sausage & Egg Breakfast Casserole

Cranberry Scones

Pear Pancakes
