One of my favorite books of all time has to be Life of Pi by Yan Martel. I picked it up for book club and thought it was just another book I wouldn’t be able to get into. Well I was completely surprised when after starting the book I couldn’t put it down.
It turned out to be a book I wouldn’t put down until I finished, only pausing to eat, sleep (very little) and go to the restroom. I didn’t have kids then…
With my love of the book also came my love for Indian culture. I signed up for an Indian cooking class and learned how to make delicious, simple dishes like roti (think of an Indian tortilla), keema, and a delicious green bean dish I forget the name of.
We ended our meal with a tasty and creamy pistachio ice cream with saffron. The whole meal was unforgettable (except for the name of the green bean dish). And I enjoy making it for my family many times.
While I haven’t had a chance to take another Indian cooking class, I have been able to enjoy the Life of Pi collection at World Market. In celebration of Life of Pi coming to life on the big screen, World Market has put together an amazing line of gorgeous textiles, trinkets, cookware and … my favorite… food!
So what’s a girl to do?
Create a tasty and simple dish to celebrate. And maybe read the book one more time before heading to the theater for a much needed date night with the hubs.
Oh the fun I had shopping for this meal!
I combined a few different ingredients to put together this chicken korma with chickpea dish. Simple, delicious, and made with ingredients from World Market. Pairing it with a nice glass of mango iced tea made the perfect lunch for my daughter and I.
As I said, this dish was very simple to prepare. You can find the full recipe here.
I grabbed some Tiger Tiger Mild Korma Sauce, Tasty Bite Channa Masala, Mayur Garlic and Coriander Naan, Garam Masala Blend, and some basmati rice from World Market and paired them with a few fresh ingredients from my fridge and pantry at home to put together this meal.
In an effort to make our meal special I also picked up a few trinkets to enjoy and dishes to use in our cooking. How gorgeous is the scarf underneath the dishes? The rich colors and gorgeous pattern will make a great versatile piece.
I also picked up a few Indian cooking bowls that can also be used as serving bowls and another copy of Life of Pi to gift to a friend.
We’ll be able to make many more Indian-inspired meals with our purchases from the World Market Life of Pi collection. See everything we picked up in the photo above. I urge you to check out what they have to offer. If not to just peruse online.
What’s your favorite Indian dish?
