One of the biggest hurdles of potty training is night-time training. With GoodNites bed mats we’ve been able to alleviate any issues we’ve had with the occasional accident our son has during the night. Although he wakes up dry for a majority of the time, the nights that he does wet the bed can be very upsetting for him.
GoodNites bed mats are a simple solution to making night-time bed wetting easier to take care of. With a simple change of clothes and change of the bed mat instead of changing all of the sheets, we can get my son back in bed and back to sleep in no time!
Issues with Night Time Bed Wetting
For many months we never had to worry about waking up to a wet bed from our son. He simply held it all night long and when he woke up he hurried to the restroom as quickly as he could. Even when he was in diapers he’d wake up dry and then have one very wet diaper shortly after waking.
We were amazed and impressed with his ability to hold it in all night. That is until he started waking in the middle of the night to come to our bed. With a new-found fear of the dark and an urge to be in Mommy and Daddy’s bed waking him up, sometimes he’d waken, wet his bed, then come into our bed for the rest of the night for a dry place to sleep.
This would only happen when we forgot to have him go to the restroom before falling asleep. Usually when coming home from an event where he was sleeping in the car and had to be transferred to his bed, or a special movie night where he fell asleep on the couch with Daddy. But in the morning he’d wake up and would be quite upset that he was wet. So we started letting him know that it was OK to wake us so we could change his clothes and the bed.
GoodNites Bed Mats Keep Us Dry
The time spent taking care of his wet sheets and clothes would sometimes mean he’d stay awake for a while and would have trouble going back to sleep afterwards. Now that we’ve started using GoodNites we can quickly change wet clothes, put on a new GoodNites bed mat and kiss our sweet boy good night again.
The bed mats cover a large portion of the bed so even if our son moves up and down his bed as he normally does, there’s a piece of the bed mat underneath him. Plus the bed mats adhere to the sheets with an adhesive backing on each of the four corners of the mat. Even when he tosses and turns the bed mat does not move.
And the ability to throw them into an overnight bag when we headed out to Disneyland last week was such a relief. I wouldn’t know what to do if he had an accident in the hotel. We also gave a pack to Grandma and his Great Aunt (who watches him on Fridays and sometimes overnight) just in case. Everyone will stray dry during the holiday season this year!
One thing I was worried about when deciding on a solution for my son was if something on top of the sheets would affect his sleep. If it wasn’t the same feeling that he’s used to he might not enjoy it and would ask to have it removed.
But the softness and comfort of the bed mats put my mind at ease. My son hasn’t said one word about them and has no problem sleeping on them so they are obviously comfortable. And I love how discrete we can be. No crinkling when we sit down on his bed as other mattress covers do.
An added bonus is that he can change them himself. He had an accident last week (the first in a while) during naptime and had already changed his mat and clothes then went back to sleep without me knowing. I only found out when he came out of his room with new clothes on. Then I discovered the wet mat on the foot of the bed.
Works Great for Mom’s Bed Too!
Now as I mentioned before, my 4 year old loves to climb into our bed in the middle of the night. At around 3-4am he wiggles between his father and his 2 year old sister (who’s still co-sleeping) and me. This does not bode well for us when the waterworks start and he wets OUR bed. Not only is he wet and the bed wet but my husband, daughter and I risk being soaked as well.
And I HATE changing our bed. Every 2 weeks when I change and wash the sheets I dread it. I just don’t want to deal with the pulling and tugging and remembering the waterproof mattress cover underneath. That sucker is a pain to get on!
So now I simply put a GoodNites bed mat in our room as well so that when he does sneak in between us I know we wont get soaked if he does have an accident.
GoodNites bed mats are a great way to encourage children in their potty training journeys without including the hassle that comes with accidents. By giving my child reassurance through a bed mat, I’ve eliminated the worry and fear of bed wetting that he once had. To be honest, I think we’ve had LESS accidents when using GoodNites.
